Two Way Data Exchange Between
Lotus Notes Applications And Palm-Powered Devices
Novi, Michigan - 2 January, 2002: EBIZ
Technology, LLC of Novi, Michigan announced today general availability of their
new Lotus Notes to Palm Pilot data connector, the OSMOSIS Palm Connector. Companies utilizing this product can now
link any multitude of Lotus Notes databases and applications directly to one of
the built-in Palm OS applications.
“This really is a big win for us,” said
Michael Thomas of ING Variable Annuities.
“We have a customer relationship management system, but the palm
connector it came with never worked as advertised. It also forced us to exclude the information in our local address
book, since the connector could only link with the CRM solution. Now, with the OSMOSIS connector, we can link
any number of Lotus Notes databases to the palm. We can even link multiple mailboxes to a single palm, so each
person on a team can see what the others have scheduled.”
“We developed this conduit with
flexibility in mind,” said Joe Wichowski, President of EBIZ Technology. “After looking at the offerings that were
available for Lotus Notes and Palm connectivity, we saw that most of the others
simply linked the local user’s address book and calendar to the Palm. But we had to ask; what about corporate
information? We knew our customers had
information in CRM applications and team scheduling databases as well as their
own local information. So, we built a
toolkit that allows us to connect all of these separate applications and
deliver the information onto a single Palm device.”
Using the Lotus Notes built-in @Formula
language, OSMOSIS data connectors can quickly be customized to map existing
Lotus Notes applications to the Palm’s address book, calendar, and todo
applications. Multiple Lotus Notes applications can be mapped into a single Palm
application, giving administrators the ability to deliver corporate as well as
personal information to their users.
Synchronization happens two-way, with administrators having the ability
to lock out new records from the Palm if they wish. As an added bonus, the
Email application on the Palm device automatically synchronizes with the user’s
mailbox, allowing them to view and send email from the Palm device as well.
The toolkit’s configuration database
can also be centrally administered on the Lotus Notes server, giving
administrators the flexibility of adding other Notes applications to Palms in
the field without having to install any new software.
“Our sales reps live and die by their
Palm Pilot,” said Mr. Thomas. “It’s
unrealistic to ask them to constantly open and close their laptop every time
they need to look up a phone number or schedule an activity. Now, with the [OSMOSIS Palm Connector], they
can truly have their company information with the click of a button.”
